Metrowagonmash has been declared as the winner in the tender for overhaul of 222 Budapest Metros (185 units type 81-717 / 714, 10 units type 81-717 / 714-2M and 27 units type Ev3). Apart from Metrowagonmash, Alstom Transport SA (France), Skoda Transportation a.s. (Czech Republic), Skinest Rail a.s., (Estonia), Сonstrucciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles S.A. (CAF) , (Spain) as well as a Rumanian company and a Hungarian one have participated in the tender. After diagnostics the old cars will be overhauled. Passenger saloons, cabins and control desks will be fully refurbished, interiors will be replaced. Head car masks and bogies will be replaced and the carbody be revamped. Train control systems, video surveillance and safety systems will be modernized. The application of HVAC in the driver’s cabins and forced air cooling in the passenger saloons is to be used. Compressor systems, braking equipment and traction systems will be upgraded. Electric door drive mechanisms are to be mounted. Depending on diagnostics results other necessary overhaul work is also expected. After the above upgrading the equipment reliability and maintainability level will be considerably improved. Power consumption is to be reduced, modern aesthetic characteristics are be provided and passenger comfort level and driver’s working conditions to be improved. The service life of the metros will be extended to 25 years. The project duration is 34 months upon the contract conclusion and the first train will be delivered in 265 days.
